The threat of vote buying is well studied, and defenses against it work well at scale. Take a look at the National academies reports on voting security.Adamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19727420.post-73672570063220204682020-11-05T11:01:56.611-08:002020-11-05T11:01:56.611-08:00Oh, it's been going on in all kinds of places....Oh, it's been going on in all kinds of places. Witness the way "vote harvesting" was used in California since it was legalized in 2018.

Also your idea that something resembling an efficient market would develop is ridiculous. Look what happened with Tammy hall in the 19th century. One faction uses vote buying to win power and then uses that power to make sure their side, and only their side, isn't prosecuted.Eugine Niernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19727420.post-62385111267095795012020-11-05T05:28:59.651-08:002020-11-05T05:28:59.651-08:00I really do not like your dystopian first idea but...I really do not like your dystopian first idea but you may well be on to something there...

On the second one, it seems that California (or part of it - see https://youtu.be/iH23u2DSy94) has a system to check the signatures automatically. Buying correspondance votes may be more difficult than you suggest.Student of Libertyhttps://studentofliberty.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19727420.post-64988812320203304762020-11-04T17:57:22.608-08:002020-11-04T17:57:22.608-08:00It seems to me that modern technology makes prosec...It seems to me that modern technology makes prosecution nigh impossible. I buy votes but do not need to collect the ballots -- I just need sellers to submit scans of their ballots to a site that will automatically verify they have voted as agreed and send a payment. The value of one vote will be small enough, that even payments in dollars will be effectively untraceable.

In any case, vote-buying deserves to be considered here; I had not thought of it and much appreciate that you have broached the topic.blinkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14029828823460781386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19727420.post-73849861446103056312020-11-04T16:20:49.217-08:002020-11-04T16:20:49.217-08:00Do you mean vote buying?
